Summary
Victorian Bakers is a show where bakers from today are "brought" back to the Victorian Period. They get to relive the way the bakers in this periode made their goods. In this episode the bakers went to London. They visited a bakery that was founded in 1901. The bakers get to work with machines for the first time, because during the Victorian Period the industrial revolution started. The middle class was earning more money because of this. People could now buy cakes and other luxurious products. Bakers started tearooms to accomidate women, who were not allowed in pub, but still wanted to hang out togheter.
Opinion
As a history student, these kind of programs really intrigue me. We get to learn about this period in time from a very specific point of view, which is really interesting. The industrial revolution made the UK a really important part of the world, so this subject is really great to watch. I especially like that the bakers were also wearing clothes the people wore in this period. It makes the program so much more representable. As I said earlier on, I really enjoy watching food shows and this show combines that with my love for history.
